ASB Tooting High Street Regular complaints from residents regarding Tooting Bec as having high footfall due to the tube station and High street. Due to this we are aware there is a problem with begging, rough sleeping, shoplifting, rowdy behaviour from licenced premises and drug dealing, this is across the ward and not specific to any certain area. These concerns are regularly raised to use in our ward panel meetings.
As part of the Summer 2025 crime plan, we are dedicated to reducing ASB in the area. Our team have been involved in Op Zoridon, which involved executing 11 warrants in the area to target venues who are suspected of buying stolen goods from shoplifters. This has helped us tackle retain crime by removing easy opportunities for shoplifters to make quick and easy sales. Money from these sales helps individuals fund drug addictions, so as a consequence of these warrant it was used to reduce the drug use in the ward. When tackling begging and rough sleepers we have been working closely with our partners in the council to engage with vulnerable individuals who can be referred to other services to support them in receiving housing opportunities. If you have any information that can help us tackle drug dealing or retail crime in the area then please remember to report your information to crime stoppers. Residential Burglary Recent panel meeting where crime stats were discussed with panel members and they have elected to show Burglary as a Tooting Bec priority. 8 residential burglaries has been reported to police in the last 4 months.
During our shift we regularly conduct hi-visibility patrols in areas around the burglary hotspots. We have a good relationship with local residents and will increase our Met Engage sign up the affected areas. Will request Wandsworth council to consider deploying a temporary CCTV to a specific road to deter anyone looking to commit crime. There have also been discussions with the council around lighting and further CCTVs to make the area safer for the public. We will continue to monitor the situation through our reports and remind the public to follow crime prevention advice around keeping your vehicle safe.
