Current priorities
Shop Theft
We’ve improved shop-theft protocols, increased resources, and targeted prolific offenders resulting in Community Behaviour Orders and over 10 years of custodial sentences since October 2024. Retail crime has fallen across Jarrow and Hebburn, with a focused plan at Morrisons (Viking Centre) achieving a 70% reduction in one month. Strong partnership work and targeting repeat offenders are also helping to disrupt wider criminality.

Anti-social behaviour in Hebburn Town Centre and Marina
Police and Council teams carry out regular joint patrols in hotspot areas. We’re using a full range of legal and civil powers to tackle disorder, alongside joint family visits and Youth Justice support. The Local Authority continues targeted diversion and engagement at peak times.
