Local policing team in the Northumbria Police area: contact routes, current priorities and public events.
Newcastle is world-renowned for its nightlife, culture, heritage and sporting venues. Its suburbs are largely residential and Newcastle is also one of the most diverse areas in our force. We have police bases in the city centre, the West End, Byker and Etal Lane, plus a team stationed within the international airport.

Current priorities
Overnight Vehicle Crime
The Neighbourhood Policing team together with the Neighbourhood Support Team and High Impact Team continue to tackle this issue through analysing the crimes, crime prevention advice and proactively targeting known and identified offenders. A series of excellent arrests of target offenders at the end of 2025 saw significant reductions in offending. There have been further noteable arrests and prosecutions of target offenders that have seen some receive custodial sentences. However there are still opportunist criminals that go around trying car doors which are often left insecure which account for over 90% of reported vehicle crime. We encourage all residents not to store valuables in vehicles and double check your vehicle is locked.

We continue to work in collaboration with internal and external partners to educate, divert and deter and prosecute offenders. Seizing offending vehicles and having them destroyed. We currently have innovative operations being carried out that make the best use of technology options along with specialist traffic officers in a problem solving approach to dealing with this issue.
