Current priorities

Anti-Social Behaviour - Bus Station and surrounding areas

Due to an increase of reports of anti-social behaviour from youths in and around Skipton Bus Station and Town centre, we have increased our high visibility and plain clothed patrols in the area and have been working closely with our partner agencies such as the Skipton BID, Shopwatch, Craven Council, Craven Community Safety Partnership Hub and our local MP to have a co-ordinated and joint approach which has allowed CCTV cameras to be put in place. Youths continue to be dealt with robustly and engagement with parents and schools is ongoing.

Sale of illegal Alcohol, Vapes & Cigarettes

Through joint visits and enforcement with Trading Standards and our Licensing department to several premises in Skipton we have greatly reduced the sale of illegal Alcohol, Vapes & Cigarettes to both adults and minors. Work is also ongoing to have certain premises closed down and several are receiving ongoing compliance visits and visible patrols.

Shop thefts in Skipton Town.

Successful operations have reduced shoptheft from smaller, independent business in Skipton Town. This has moved onto the larger stores and those more out of the centre. Increased work both overt and plain-clothes to tackle those groups who are known to target the Skipton area. Working with the BID, the Community Safety Hub and local retailers is addressing the issues with a partnership approach.

Tourism issues at local Beauty Spots

In warmer weather the large number of visitors to the area is putting a strain on the existing infrastructure and impacting on local communities at our rivers and beauty spots with issues such as water safety, fire safety around BBQ’s, illegal / inconsiderate parking, littering and anti-social behaviour. Our Public Safety and Neighbourhood Teams are holding regular multi-agency meetings involving Parking Enforcement Services, Highways, Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Craven Community Partnership Safety Hub and Public Safety Services to coordinate a joint response and increase high visibility patrols during peak periods, bringing together Police Officers, PCSOs, Public safety officers, Park Rangers and Parking Enforcement Teams. The partnership approach will continue, with a further meeting planned involving a wider group of stakeholders. This will be followed by engagement and consultation with local parish councils to identify longer-term solutions that balance the needs of residents, visitors, and the environment.

Anti-social use of E- Bikes.

There has been a national and local increase in concern around anti-social use of E- Bikes and their associated safety and criminal issues. Through high visibility patrols and intelligence work our Public Safety Teams have seized two illegal E-bikes. Through education at schools we are hoping to reduce their purchase and misuse.
