Current priorities
We have recently seen some rural burglaries in which quad bikes, machinery and tools have been stolen. We believe those responsible are from wider force areas, we are working with neighbouring forces to tackle the issue. We have seen a decrease in thefts however we are focusing on prevention.
We have created Operation Passage which is our response to these burglaries. This will see an increase in police patrols in the area, with officers looking to proactively stop those in the Dales looking to commit crime. The Richmondshire Community Safety Hub are involved in the response to the burglaries, along with prevention. They will be offering crime prevention advice and tools to those vulnerable to crime. Should you like a visit from the local team, and would like some of your valuables marked with your details please get in touch through the website and somebody will be in touch. We have recovered a number of stolen vehicles and made several arrests.

Although we have a relatively low crime rate in relation to shop theft in the Richmond area, we do believe some offences go unreported. All retail businesses now have a dedicated point of contact from the local neighbourhood team, where they are provided with advice on crime prevention, and encouraged to report any suspicious activity. Reported offences will be investigated and suspects pursued to recover property.
Officers will be on regular patrol in Richmond, particularly on foot around the market place. Please report any suspicious persons to them, or report through on 101 to allow officers to attend the area and deter any criminal activity.
Set: 2026-06-08
We have begun to increase our patrols in relation to night time economy, particularly in Richmond market place. We will work alongside Royal Military Police to ensure people enjoying the pub culture in the area do so safely, acting on any anti social behaviour reported, and dealing positively with offenders of crime. We will also be carrying out education to the local public houses in relation to VAWG (violence against women and girls), ensuring safe reporting mechanisms to ensure safeguarding of any vulnerable persons. We will use uniformed and plain clothes patrols to identify offenders and to provide reassurance.
Please remain vigilant when enjoying your night time events, and report any anti social behaviour through to the police immediately. Officers will present over the coming May bank holiday for NTE patrols and the expected hot weather and rise in alcohol consumption this sees. Please be aware of your surroundings and reports any ASB through to the police. **Update**You will see an increase if officer patrols with the World Cup now in full swing. We want to see everyone enjoy the football safely, but should you see anything of concern please report to an officer, or contact the police on 999 in an emergency or on the 101 number.
Set: 2026-06-08
Over the recent May bank holiday we saw an increase in people travelling to Richmond to enjoy Richmond Falls. Unfortunately this brought with it some inconsiderate parking and anti social behaviour. Partners have been working together to resolve this, and plans are in place for extra patrols from agencies over hot weather weekends.
Officers will be patrolling the area of The Falls to ensure all are acting in a safe manner. Highways and Parking enforcement will also be present to ensure the roads are safe, and vehicles parked inconsiderately are dealt with robustly.
