Identification of MOSOVO offenders

Managing sexual offenders and violent offenders — Authorised Professional Practice

All topics

Summary

This module provides guidance for officers and staff managing sexual offenders and violent offenders (MOSOVO) to ensure offenders are categorized and managed appropriately under multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA). It outlines the qualifying periods for supervision and defines types of offenders, such as registered sexual offenders (RSOs) and registered violent offenders (RVOs). Management is informed by national policies, including the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008. The classification of offenders is critical for risk assessment and management involving multiple agencies, ensuring public safety and effective oversight of potentially dangerous individuals.

Key principles

  • 1MOSOVO officers must understand different offender types and their management requirements.
